In Todays Letter...

A pink box of cigars? I confess, it caught my attention.

The Rare Pink Vintage 1960s Series by Arturo Fuente supports breast cancer research through a portion of the proceeds from its sales.

Having lost both of my parents to cancer, buying a box required very little persuasion…

Naturally, I had to try at least two of the available vitolas.

Vitolas from the Rare Pink Vintage 1960s Series

The Signature was recommended to me by the man behind the counter. Slim, elegant, beautifully balanced. The draw had that familiar cooling quality I have come to love from Fuente. The recommendation was exquisite. This was a man whose taste I would now trust.

Then came the Happy Ending.

Shorter. Thicker. A little more indulgent. Carrying a greater punch if you will.

I have a weakness for the slimmer sticks. The Trinidad Reyes remains a favourite for much the same reason: understated, refined, enough without overwhelming; a smooth and steady draw throughout.

But there are moments when subtlety is not what you want.

Sometimes you want the fuller experience.

As we know, there is no perfect smoke, only the right smoke for the moment.

And who could blame a man for enjoying a little variety?

And yet, beneath the pink bands and playful names, there is something more serious.

As the cigar burns, you notice the pink band beneath your nose, reminding you of why the series exists in the first place.

Perhaps that is another reason I enjoy it.

Pleasure and purpose do not have to exist separately.

Sometimes, purpose gives pleasure more depth.

Perhaps the deepest pleasures then are those that satisfy something beyond just the physical senses.

Behind the Cigar

Carlos “Carlito” Fuente Jr., grandson of founder Arturo Fuente, created Rare Pink as a tribute to his daughter, Liana, and the women in his life. Breast cancer had already touched Liana's family deeply, and the series became a vehicle for supporting breast cancer research.

From the Community

We recently welcomed new readers and now have over 6,000 cigar lovers receiving these weekly letters.

We want to create something a little more personal for the most engaged readers of Cigar Letters.

A small WhatsApp group. No noise, no promotion. Just cigar lovers sharing what they are smoking, where they are travelling, and the occasional recommendation worth knowing.

We would rather keep it small and good than large and forgettable.

If you would like to join, reply with your name and phone number. We’ll be keeping the group intentionally small.

Until next time.

Yours truly,
The Cigar Lover
